Artist's Description
This is a view from the crest of Mt. Scott of the magnificent country within the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in southwestern Oklahoma. The granite peaks date back some 300 million years ago when the area was uplifted to create the present mountain range. Named for the Wichita Indian tribe which inhabited the region, it is home to many animals such as bison, prairie dogs, deer, elk, etc and 806 plant species which are found throughout the 59,020 acre preserve. A storied history tells of famous frontiersmen, Indian dignitaries and even a gold rush in this area. Now a mecca for fishing, camping, hiking and hunting as well as a great area for photography, it is one of the most popular destinations in the state.

Our first family trip farther than Oklahoma City was to Montana when I was about 14 years old. I shot...
