Artist's Description

This is the Town Hall in Tincup, Colorado near Gunnison and Crested Butte. It was built in 1903 and today houses both the Town Hall and church services weekly. Originally called Virginia City and incorporated in 1880, the name was later changed to Tincup because the first miner carried his gold back to camp in a tin cup. Virginia City also existed in both Nevada and Montana and this caused much confusion, so it was changed to Tincup in 1882. The gold boom is gone but the tourist boom is in full swing as this is now a destination for fishermen, hunters and campers.
