Description
This is a Huey helicopter like those used in the Vietnam War. It is displayed at the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Angel Fire, New Mexico. The memorial was built from 1968 to 1971 in honor of USMC1/Lt. David Westphal, the son of Dr. and Mrs, Westphal, who was killed in action in Vietnam on May 22, 1968. Dr. and Mrs Westphal had purchased the 8oo acre Val Verde Ranch in 1964 with the intentions of building a 9 hole golf course and housing development and in fact, had started the golf course when the news of their son's death arrived. They then rededicated their lives and mission to that of building a memorial to David and all who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. A visit to this beautiful memorial will bring tears to your eyes and a sadness in your heart for all the innocent lives lost in not only this war, but all current and past wars. Visit www.vietnamveteransmemorial.org for more info about the memorial, donations or memorial bricks to honor Vietnam veterans.
