About Jim McCain

Jim McCain My personal connection with art started as a child living on a farm along historic Route 66 and the Canadian River. My mother had art talent as well, but like me, she never had any training. It wasn't until after her death that we discovered some drawings of hers from middle school. So I owe her for my interest in many forms of art. Living on the farm adjacent to the Canadian gave her the chance to teach us all about nature and the wonders to be found in the woodlands and streams. I grew to appreciate and care for all living things and that ultimately led me to photography. My first camera was an old Kodak box camera using 620 film. Our first family trip farther than Oklahoma City was to Montana when I was about 14 years old. I shot lots of pictures from the back of a moving pickup truck with the camper door up because my Dad only stopped for gas or potty breaks. Seeing Colorado, Wyoming and Montana at that young age helped shaped my future in photography and travel. Fortunately, I do the driving now and stop often to shoot!

If life were perfect, I would be a traveling photographer (making a living ), stopping only long enough to canvas the area, then heading for the next glorious horizon. As it is, I still travel like a madman, seeing all I can see on each trip, preserving the beauty out there for future generations, sharing now with those who aren't able to travel. I suppose that will be my legacy should my son decide to share it... My portfolio includes a little bit of everything. I shoot whatever I see that I feel is worthy of preservation. Favorites have always been windmills at sunset, rustic barns, beautiful flowers and leaves in the fall. I hope my photos touch your heart and give you a sense of place, a sense of peace and joy and an insight as to the great beauty that surrounds us all.... Thank you for viewing my work !
